This issue might be tied with losing a flag/trigger value that denotes having bought Erik his game. I had to buy him the game twice and now I can train with Kevin. I also could not purchase Orcette for Erik. I've lost that story thread it seems.

This is a duplicate bug report. This is related to character progression resetting, and is under investigation.
